Key takeaways

  • Two custom Claris mirrors for the washrooms at OCHE King West, a Toronto hospitality venue, specified by interior designer Krista Toman.
  • The men's room carries a Gemini twin-circle piece outlined in crisp LED; the women's room carries BUTTERFLY, an asymmetric wing on Diamond ClearVision Belgian glass.
  • Both pieces were drawn to their rooms, not pulled from a shelf: the designer set the shapes and the mood, and the glass, lighting, and form followed.

The brief at OCHE King West: two washrooms, two custom mirrors

OCHE King West is a hospitality venue in Toronto's King West, where design is part of the night. Interior designer Krista Toman specified two Claris pieces for the washrooms, one for each room, each drawn to its own brief.

The work was custom from the start. Krista set the shapes and the mood. Claris built the glass, the lighting, and the form to match.

Men's washroom: a twin-circle Gemini mirror

The men's room takes the Gemini design language: two circles, joined, outlined in crisp LED. Graphic lines, clean edges. Behind the glass, a retro-pattern wallpaper repeats in the reflection, so the mirror doubles the room's energy instead of flattening it. The piece was sized to the wall and lit to stay sharp under low light.

Women's washroom: the BUTTERFLY

The women's room uses BUTTERFLY, an asymmetric mirror drawn from the curve of a wing. It hangs as a single Left or Right piece on Diamond ClearVision Belgian glass. Soft backlight runs the perimeter, so the mirror appears to float against the patterned wall. The light is even and easy on the face. The form stands as sculpture before it serves as a mirror.

Why does custom suit a hospitality washroom?

Because the washroom is where a venue's design either holds or breaks. Guests meet the mirror one at a time, up close, under low light, and a stock piece sized for a suburban vanity rarely survives that scrutiny. A custom piece answers the wall it hangs on: sized to the room, lit for the conditions, and shaped to carry the venue's language into its smallest space. Two rooms, one standard of finish. Both OCHE mirrors carry true-colour Belgian glass and integrated LED. Both were specified, not pulled off a shelf. That is what a Claris project looks like: the designer sets the vision, and every dimension, shape, and light follows the room.

The catalogue language behind the two pieces

Both OCHE mirrors were custom builds, so neither carries a catalogue SKU. The closest references in the Claris range show the construction they share: JUMEAU carries the Gemini twin-circle form, and BUTTERFLY is the wing itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claris build a mirror to a designer's own shape?

Yes. The OCHE pieces started as Krista Toman's shapes and moods, and Claris engineered the glass, LED, and mounting to match. Custom work spans size, form, tint, and lighting, on the same low-iron Belgian glass and five-year warranty as the catalogue, with lead times confirmed in every quote.

What mirrors work best in hospitality washrooms?

Pieces that hold up under low light and close range: even, face-friendly illumination, true-colour glass, and a form strong enough to carry the room. Backlit sculptural pieces like BUTTERFLY and the Gemini twin-circle language both do that work, each in a different register.

Is BUTTERFLY only available as a custom piece?

No. BUTTERFLY is a catalogue model, sold as a single Left or Right wing on Diamond ClearVision Belgian glass, and pairs of wings are often mounted facing outward over double vanities. The OCHE piece shows the same design specified into a hospitality room.
