Most bathroom vanity styles fall into seven families: modern, Japandi, organic, transitional, traditional, industrial and statement. Match the mirror to the vanity on three things: its line (straight or soft), its weight (frameless or framed), and its finish. Size it the same way for all seven: 2 to 4 inches inside each vanity edge.

We make mirrors. The vanity is your designer's or cabinetmaker's call, and this guide starts from whatever they have chosen.

Key takeaways

  • Read the vanity for three things: line, weight and finish.
  • Straight-lined vanities take crisp rectangles. Soft or natural vanities take curves.
  • Heavy, furniture-style vanities take a frame. Light, floating ones take frameless glass.
  • Repeat one finish from the vanity or its hardware. Two competing finishes fight.
  • Sizing does not change with style: 2 to 4 inches inside each edge, rounds at 70 to 80 percent.

Bathroom vanity styles at a glance

Vanity style Cues to look for Mirror that suits Claris pieces
Modern Flat slab doors, no hardware, often floating Frameless lit rectangle BOCA, ACARI, DIMO, MORENO
Japandi and warm minimal Light oak, plaster, low profile Soft shape, warm glass, backlit ALHENA, GIGI, SOUL
Organic and spa Stone, travertine, vessel basins Asymmetric or offset round, backlit STONE, PEBBLE, COMO
Transitional Shaker doors, painted, simple pulls Slim metal frame, pill or round DIANO, VIANO, ORO Light
Traditional Furniture legs, marble top, cross-handle taps Warm metal or slim round frame ORO Light, VELA
Industrial Black metal, concrete, open shelves Black frame, unlit or backlit NERO, VARIO STEEL
Statement Sculptural or custom vanity, powder rooms A mirror that is an object MERCURE, TWINS, LEDA, CORE

The three rules behind the table are simple. Line answers line. Weight answers weight. Finish repeats once.

What mirror suits a modern vanity?

A modern vanity is about planes: slab doors, no visible pulls, a thin counter, often hung on the wall. The mirror should be just as quiet. A frameless rectangle with integrated light keeps the wall clean and removes sconces from the plan.

  • BOCA: front-lit with a clean illuminated outline, 72 by 36 inches for a 72 inch vanity, or 78 by 36 for a wider one.
  • ACARI: a wide frameless rectangle, front-lit, 60 by 36 inches.
  • DIMO: a rounded rectangle with bright, even front light, at 24 by 32 or 48 by 30 inches.
  • MORENO: backlit through a frosted edge, at 24 by 32 or 36 by 30 inches, for a softer glow.

Modern vanities tend to run long and low, so a horizontal rectangle that follows the cabinet's length sits best. Front-lit puts light on the face, which suits a grooming mirror. Backlit puts it on the wall, which suits a vanity that already has a strip of light beneath it. Our backlit vs front-lit guide covers the choice, and the Radiance Collection holds the range.

What mirror suits a Japandi or warm minimal vanity?

Japandi vanities lean on natural wood, matte plaster and low, calm proportions. A hard rectangle can feel severe against them. Rounded forms and warm-toned glass settle the room. These rooms run on empty wall, so keep the mirror toward the smaller end of the sizing band. Warm 3000K light sits well with oak and plaster.

The Gemini Collection by Benoît Gérard fits here. Each piece pairs Bronze Frosted Belgian glass with a Diamond ClearVision mirror, backlit at 3000K or unlit. ALHENA holds a single oval aperture in a rounded form, at 48 by 30 or 60 by 30 inches. GIGI is one circle with one circular aperture, 32 or 36 inches across. For a plainer route, SOUL brings rounded corners and a frosted edge, backlit, at 30 by 60 inches.

Editors at Livingetc report the same shift across 2026 bathrooms: arches, ovals and organic outlines, chosen because they soften the straight lines of tile and cabinetry. See the full Gemini Collection.

What mirror suits an organic or spa vanity?

A stone vanity, a travertine wall or a carved vessel basin calls for a mirror with the same natural line. The Terra pieces are all backlit, so the light lands on the stone around them.

  • STONE: raw, asymmetric rock cut clean, 25.5 by 40.5 inches, vertical. Wave motion sensor and anti-fog as standard, and the wave build changes colour temperature in the room.
  • PEBBLE: a smooth river-stone silhouette with a frosted band lit from behind, 25.5 by 41 inches. It hangs in four positions.
  • COMO: an offset round, 39.5 by 33.5 inches, that hangs leaning left, centred or leaning right.

Place organic shapes by visual weight: keep the widest point inside the vanity edges and give the outline extra wall. The reasoning is in the organic mirror, and the set is in the Terra Collection.

What mirror suits a transitional or traditional vanity?

Transitional

A transitional vanity mixes the two worlds: Shaker doors, a painted finish, simple pulls. A slim metal frame holds the middle ground. DIANO is a slender backlit pill in black matte stainless steel at 23.5 by 39.5 inches, with a white matte sibling at 21.5 by 37.5. VIANO is a round in matte stainless steel, black or white, at 29.5, 33.5 or 37.5 inches across. A portrait pill or a round suits a single Shaker vanity: it repeats the panel without repeating the box. Match the frame to the pulls and the pair looks deliberate. The range sits in the Elegance Collection.

Traditional

A traditional vanity is furniture: legs, a marble top, cross-handle taps, sometimes a washstand. It wants warmth in the frame. ORO Light sets a backlit mirror in a thin gold powder-coated aluminum frame, at 24 by 32 or 36 by 30 inches, with wave motion and anti-fog. VELA is an unlit round in a slim stainless steel frame, black matte or white, at 25.5 or 29.5 inches. Keep the frame thinner than the vanity's legs, so the furniture stays the heavier piece.

Homes & Gardens adds a useful point for both styles: when wall lights flank the mirror, the mirror usually runs slimmer, and the lights become part of its frame.

What mirror suits an industrial vanity?

Concrete tops, black steel legs and open shelves call for a mirror with structure. A black frame repeats the metal. NERO uses a slim black matte aluminum frame, unlit, at 24 by 32, 36 by 30, 48 by 30 or 71 by 32 inches. VARIO STEEL is heavier, in black matte stainless steel, unlit, at 36 by 30 or 48 by 30 inches. Both belong to the Premio Collection, the line without LED. Open shelves and visible legs carry real weight, so a heavier frame balances the cabinet. Light comes from sconces or a bar above; keep any fixture no wider than the mirror.

What mirror suits a statement vanity?

A sculptural or custom vanity in a powder room deserves a mirror that holds its own. Two collections are built for this.

  • Gemini. MERCURE is a wide 78 by 30 inch form with two 26 inch round apertures. TWINS is a vertical panel with a round aperture, installed alone or in pairs. LEDA sets an off-centre oval aperture in a pill body, at 60 by 30 or 78 by 30 inches.
  • Art. CORE, designed by Serhii Gotvyansky, is cut like a gem: an angular plane with bevelled faces, unlit, 29 by 59 inches, in Bronze, Diamond or Graphite. See the Art Collection.

How to match a mirror to any bathroom vanity style

Family Handyman sorts vanities by how they meet the room: wall-hung, corner-mount, freestanding and console, with the conventional cabinet fixed to the wall as the baseline. Wall-hung vanities suit frameless glass; freestanding and console pieces suit a frame. For the full comparison, read floating or freestanding vanity, and the mirror for each.

Then check the size. Our vanity mirror sizing guide gives the width for every vanity, and should the mirror be wider than the vanity covers the full-width look. Every piece named here is crafted in Europe and carries a five-year warranty, residential and commercial alike. When no catalogue size fits the wall, many Claris models can be built to the size the project calls for through Concept Studio. More guides live in the Design Journal.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main bathroom vanity styles?

Most vanities fall into seven families: modern, Japandi or warm minimal, organic and spa, transitional, traditional, industrial and statement. Each has its own cues in door style, material and hardware, and each suits a different mirror shape and frame.

Should the mirror frame match the vanity hardware?

It helps. Repeat one finish, such as gold frame with brass taps or black frame with black pulls, and the pair looks deliberate. Two strong finishes side by side tend to compete.

What mirror suits a traditional or vintage vanity?

A framed mirror suits a traditional vanity with legs, a marble top or cross-handle taps. A thin gold frame, or a slim round frame in black or white, keeps the furniture feel without adding weight.

Does vanity style change mirror size?

No. Size the mirror the same way for every style: a rectangle 2 to 4 inches inside each vanity edge, and a round at 70 to 80 percent of the vanity width. Style decides the shape, frame and light.
