A double vanity mirror can be one wide piece or a matched pair, and both work. On a 60 to 72 inch double vanity, choose one mirror of 60 to 66 inches for a clean line, or two mirrors of 24 to 30 inches, each centred on its own basin with at least 4 inches of wall between them.
The choice turns on the wall, the lights and the people. One mirror gives an architectural line and bounces more light around the room. A pair gives symmetry, and each person their own glass and their own light.
This guide sets out both routes in numbers. For mirror widths on single vanities, see what size mirror for your vanity.
Key takeaways
- On a 60 to 72 inch double vanity: one mirror of 60 to 66 inches, or two of 24 to 30 inches each.
- Round pairs run 28 to 34 inches each.
- Centre each mirror of a pair on its own basin.
- The gap between two mirrors: at least 4 inches; 6 to 8 inches for a wide tap; a sconce between them needs its own width plus 6 to 8 inches.
- A busy wall suits one mirror. A plain wall that wants rhythm suits two.
One mirror or two over a double vanity?
Both are correct calls. The room decides which one is right.
| One wide mirror | A matched pair | |
|---|---|---|
| The look | One clean, architectural line | Symmetry; two deliberate pieces |
| Light | More reflected light; a small room feels larger | Each person gets their own light |
| The wall | Calms a wall already busy with tile, a window or pattern | Gives rhythm to a plain wall |
| Sconces | Flank the outer edges | Can sit between the two mirrors |
| Alignment | Centred on the vanity | Each mirror centred on its basin |
| Size on a 60 to 72 in vanity | 60 to 66 in | 24 to 30 in each; rounds 28 to 34 in |
What size double vanity mirror do you need?
These are the widths from our vanity sizing chart. Widths are in inches.
| Vanity width | One mirror | A pair (rectangular) | A pair (round) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 to 72 in (double) | 60 to 66 in | 24 to 30 in each | 28 to 34 in each |
| 72 in and wider | 60 to 66 in inside the edges, or full width as a statement | Size each to its basin | Size each to its basin |
At the 60 inch end, a 60 inch mirror runs the full width of the vanity. That is a deliberate look, and our trade guide to architectural mirror dimensions treats full width as an architectural choice. For an inset single mirror on a 60 inch vanity, the chart gives 52 to 56 inches. A pair is the easier route to source: designer Kathy Kuo, quoted in Homes & Gardens, notes that most bathroom mirrors fall between 24 and 48 inches wide.
How far apart should two mirrors be?
Centre each mirror on its basin first. Then check the gap.
Measure the distance between the two basin centres. With two equal mirrors, the gap between them is simple arithmetic: basin spacing minus mirror width. Three common spacings show how quickly the gap closes.
| Basin centres apart | Gap with two 24 in mirrors | Gap with two 26 in mirrors | Gap with two 30 in mirrors |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 in | 6 in | 4 in | 0 in (too tight) |
| 33 in | 9 in | 7 in | 3 in (under the minimum) |
| 36 in | 12 in | 10 in | 6 in |
Four inches is the common minimum. A wide tap or a busy backsplash between the basins moves the right answer to 6 to 8 inches. A sconce between the mirrors needs 3 to 4 inches of clear wall on each side, the clearance in our trade guide, so the gap must equal the sconce's own width plus 6 to 8 inches.
Check the outer edges too. Each mirror should stay inside the vanity edge, the same 2 to 4 inch inset that applies to a single mirror.
Which single mirrors span a double vanity?
- BOCA, 72 x 36 or 78 x 36: front-lit, with a clean illuminated outline, Wave Motion control and anti-fog as standard. Built for the wide double vanity where one piece carries the wall.
- ACARI, 60 x 36: a frameless rectangle with crisp front lighting, Wave Motion control and anti-fog. On a 60 inch vanity it runs full width; on a 72 inch vanity it sits inside the edges.
Both put the light on the face, which is what two people getting ready at once need. More on that in front-lit mirrors.
One panel, two apertures
There is a middle route. JUMEAU and MERCURE, by Benoît Gérard for the Gemini Collection, hold two round mirrors in a single panel: one opening for each basin. JUMEAU comes at 51 x 26 with two 22 inch apertures, or 60 x 30 with two 26 inch apertures. MERCURE spans 78 x 30, with two 26 inch apertures. Both are Bronze Frosted Belgian glass over a Diamond ClearVision mirror, backlit at 3000K or unlit.
Basins rarely sit where a catalogue panel expects them. For vanity use, we recommend a custom build so each aperture lands over its basin; the details are confirmed in the quote.
Which mirror pairs suit a double vanity?
- DIANO BLACK, 23.5 x 39.5, and DIANO WHITE, 21.5 x 37.5: slender backlit pills in matte stainless steel. Calm and exact. Both sit a touch under the 24 inch start of the band, which leaves more wall around each glow.
- BUTTERFLY, 26 x 43.5: an asymmetric wing sold as a Left or a Right. Hang one of each and the wings open outward to frame the basins. Specify it when the pair should be the feature of the room.
- VITA, 26 x 44: a soft-edged backlit rectangle with Wave Motion control and anti-fog, tall enough for a high ceiling.
For round pairs, VIANO at 29.5 or 33.5 inches and ORSO at 32 inches sit in the 28 to 34 inch band. Two 32 inch rounds need basin centres at least 36 inches apart to keep a 4 inch gap. Our guide to the round mirror over a vanity has the full sizing.
How do you light a double vanity?
With a pair of lit mirrors, each person controls their own light, and sconces become optional. With one wide mirror, sconces move to the outer edges, each with 3 to 4 inches of clear wall. A fixture above one wide mirror is the other route: lighting maker Kichler keeps a vanity fixture no wider than the mirror below it, with its centre about 72 inches from the floor. The routes, the colour temperatures and the placement are set out in our designer's guide to LED bathroom mirrors.
Every piece here is crafted in Europe and backed by a five-year warranty. Browse the full edit of double vanity mirrors, or explore more guides in the Design Journal. When the basins, the wall and the catalogue never quite meet, many Claris models can be built to the size the project calls for, with the lead time confirmed in every quote.
Frequently asked questions
Should a double vanity have one mirror or two?
Either works. One wide mirror gives a clean line and more reflected light, and suits a busy wall. Two mirrors give symmetry and a light for each person, and suit a plain wall that wants rhythm.
What size mirror for a 60 inch double vanity?
For a pair, two mirrors of 24 to 30 inches, each centred on its basin with at least 4 inches between them. For one mirror, our sizing chart gives 60 to 66 inches across 60 to 72 inch double vanities; on a 60 inch vanity that is the full-width look, and a mirror of 52 to 56 inches keeps it inset.
How far apart should two mirrors be over a double vanity?
Leave at least 4 inches of wall between them; 6 to 8 inches for a wide tap; a sconce between them needs its own width plus 6 to 8 inches. Centre each mirror on its basin first, then check the gap.
Should two mirrors be centred on the sinks or on the vanity?
On the sinks. Each mirror lines up with its own basin and faucet. Two mirrors centred on the halves of the vanity look off whenever the basins sit closer together than the halves.
Can one mirror work over a double vanity with two faucets?
Yes. One wide mirror centred on the vanity serves both basins. BOCA and ACARI are built for this, and JUMEAU and MERCURE hold one panel with a round mirror over each basin.
What size round mirrors work over a double vanity?
A pair of rounds of 28 to 34 inches, each centred on its basin. Check the spacing: two 32 inch rounds need basin centres at least 36 inches apart to leave 4 inches between them.
