Low Iron Mirror: What Makes a Claris Mirror Clearer

Belgian glass, copper-free silvering, and what designers should ask any mirror supplier before signing a PO.

Stand in front of two mirrors. One Claris, on low iron mirror glass. One standard. The room looks correct in one of them. Skin reads warm. White paint stays white. Brass holds its tone. The other reflection sits a quarter-step off. Cooler. Greener.

The difference isn't only in the glass. A Claris mirror is built for three things. Customization. Quality. Longevity. The clarity is one consequence of getting all three right.

Customization

The catalogue is a starting point. Not the limit.

Quality

Materials chosen for the eye, not the price.

A Claris mirror in section THE CLARIS BUILD, IN SECTION Ultra-low-iron Belgian glass High light transmission, no green tint Silver layer Chemical deposition Copper-free seal Engineered for humidity Protective back paint Sealed against the bathroom environment Copper-free seal replaces the silvering layer that ages a standard mirror at the edge.

Belgian glass. A low iron mirror substrate, architectural-grade float. The base of every Claris piece. The green cast that most reflections carry drops below the threshold most observers can name.

Copper-free silvering. The silver layer is sealed against humidity, no copper backing. No warm shift in the reflection. No edge mottling at year five or year twenty.

Designer-grade colour-rendering LEDs. The colour-rendering index is the lighting equivalent of glass clarity. A higher index keeps colour accurate under the light: skin tones, fabric, metal finishes, paint.

Together: a reflection that reads the room as the architect drew it.

Longevity

Built to outlast the renovation cycle.

Five years on residential installations. Glass, silvering, electronics. Two years on commercial installations. The shorter commercial window reflects higher use cycles, not a different build.

No edge mottling. The black corrosion that ages standard bathroom mirrors is copper degradation. A copper-free seal removes the cause.

Certified to North American standards.

A mirror should not be a renovation-cycle purchase. Specify a Claris piece once, and the renovation works around it.

A note on craftsmanship

Belgian glass is the foundation. Ukrainian craftsmanship is the build. Toronto coordination is the trade relationship.

Benoît Gérard, our Creative Director, designs the Gemini Collection against the same brief every collaborating designer eventually writes: the mirror should disappear, and the room should arrive. The substrate is what makes that disappearance possible. The frame and the silhouette decide whether the room arrives gracefully.
