The most common of the standard bathroom mirror sizes is 24 x 36 inches, width by height. Most bathroom mirrors fall between 24 and 48 inches wide, with about 30 inches tall as the usual starting height. Wider formats such as 48 x 30, 60 x 36 and 72 x 36 cover long vanities, and rounds start near 24 inches.

Sizes are written width first. A 24 x 36 mirror is a portrait piece; a 36 x 30 is landscape. Claris lists every variant the same way, so the sizes below match the product pages.

A standard size is the quickest route to a finished wall, and it fits best when the wall is close to standard too. The width comes from the vanity below it, set out in our chart of what size mirror for your vanity. This guide covers the formats themselves.

Key takeaways

  • 24 x 36 inches is the size most often called standard.
  • Most bathroom mirrors run 24 to 48 inches wide.
  • Sizes are written width by height: 24 x 36 is portrait, 36 x 30 is landscape.
  • Claris rounds come in 25.5 to 37.5 inch diameters.
  • Width follows the vanity. Height follows the ceiling.

What are the standard bathroom mirror sizes?

Published guides agree on a handful of reference points.

Beyond those, the market settles into formats: a portrait mirror about 24 inches wide, a taller portrait near 26 x 44, a landscape at 36 x 30, wide pieces at 48 and 60 inches, double-vanity pieces at 72 inches and up, full-height pieces, and rounds.

STONE and PEBBLE are organic shapes, so their size is placed by visual weight rather than by width; the organic mirror guide explains the method. Rounds follow their own rule of 70 to 80 percent of the vanity width, worked through in our guide to the round mirror over a vanity. For pairs, see the double vanity mirror.

Should a bathroom mirror be portrait or landscape?

Portrait is vertical and architectural. It suits narrow walls, single basins and higher ceilings. Landscape is horizontal and grounding. It suits wide vanities and shared basins.

The ceiling usually decides. Our trade guide sets out the lean:

Ceiling height Mirror height Orientation lean
Under 8 ft 36 to 40 in Landscape
8 to 9 ft 40 to 48 in Landscape or square
9 to 10 ft 42 to 52 in Square or portrait
Above 10 ft 48 to 60 in, or tall vertical Portrait

A portrait mirror on a low ceiling crowds the top edge. A landscape mirror on a 10 foot wall can look short. When the vanity is narrow and the ceiling is high, the full-height formats come in: PULSE and TWINS run 60 inches tall and more.

Which standard size fits your vanity?

Start with the vanity width, then check the height.

  • Width. A rectangle sits 2 to 4 inches inside each edge of the vanity. A 24 inch wide mirror suits a 30 inch vanity. A 36 x 30 suits a 42 inch vanity. A 60 inch mirror runs full width on a 60 inch vanity and sits inset on a 72 inch one.
  • Height. The bottom edge sits 5 to 10 inches above the counter, and the centre of the glass at eye level, about 58 to 65 inches from the floor. A tall mirror sits low in that gap. Our guide to mirror height over a vanity has the arithmetic.

When a measurement sits between two standard sizes, take the narrower one. A mirror a touch too small looks intentional. One that crowds the sconces does not.

When is a standard size the wrong answer?

Standard sizes assume a standard wall. Many walls are not. Go custom when:

  • The basin sits off-centre on the vanity.
  • A window, a door trim or a corner sits close to the mirror.
  • Sconces or a junction box are already fixed in the wall.
  • The vanity is a bespoke width that falls between two standard mirrors.
  • The ceiling is unusually tall, and a standard height looks short.
  • The design calls for a shape no catalogue carries.

Many Claris models can be built to the size the project calls for, on the same glass and the same five-year warranty, with the lead time confirmed in every quote. JUMEAU, MERCURE and VIVO are sold in their listed sizes. The process is set out in how to specify a custom mirror, and made-to-order shapes live in Concept Studio. Frequently asked questions

What is the standard size of a bathroom mirror?

A mirror of 24 x 36 inches, width by height, is the size most often called standard. Most bathroom mirrors fall between 24 and 48 inches wide, and the right one depends on the vanity below it.

Is 24 x 36 a good size for a bathroom mirror?

It suits a 30 inch vanity well, since a 24 inch wide mirror sits 3 inches inside each edge. Over a 36 inch vanity, the usual band is 28 to 32 inches wide, so a wider format or a custom width fits better.

What size is a standard round bathroom mirror?

Round bathroom mirrors usually start near 24 inches in diameter and run up to 60 inches or more for statement walls. Claris rounds come in 25.5, 29.5, 32, 33.5, 36 and 37.5 inches.

Should a bathroom mirror be portrait or landscape?

Portrait suits narrow walls, single basins and higher ceilings. Landscape suits wide vanities, shared basins and lower ceilings. Under an 8 foot ceiling, our trade guide leans landscape; above 10 feet, it leans portrait.

Are mirror sizes written width by height?

Yes, width comes first. A 24 x 36 mirror is 24 inches wide and 36 inches tall, a portrait piece, while a 36 x 30 mirror is landscape. Claris lists every variant this way.

Can you order a bathroom mirror in a non-standard size?

Yes. Many Claris models can be built to the size the project calls for, with the lead time confirmed in every quote. JUMEAU, MERCURE and VIVO are sold in their listed sizes.
